Mint has busy year ahead for new products

BFranklin-Scientist_Proof_Obv.jpgMark your calendars for Jan. 5, 2006. That?s the day the U.S. Mint will make available the 50 state five-quarter clad proof set.

It?s the first Mint product due out in 2006, according to a product release schedule issued by the Mint.

January 2006 will be a busy month for the Mint. On Jan. 17, the Benjamin Franklin commemorative silver dollars will be released. At that time, the public will get its first crack at buying the proof and uncirculated specimens of the two versions, along with a planned coin and currency set.

Two days later, the 50 state five-quarter silver proof set will be released, followed on Jan. 30 by the first state quarter of 2006, Nevada. That?s when bags and rolls of the coin go on sale.

On Feb. 2, the Mint will release proof American Eagle silver and gold coins. Tentatively, a Feb. 28 date has been set for the release of 2006 nickel bags and rolls.

In March, the Nevada State Quarter Official First Day Coin Cover will be available on the sixth. There are a host of tentative release dates for the 2006 golden dollar bags and rolls (March 9), the 2006 Kennedy half dollar bags and rolls (March 16), the 2006 U.S. Mint 10-coin clad proof set (March 22), and the American Eagle platinum proof coins (March 24). Also, the 2006 Nickel Official First Day Coin Covers are due out in March.

April, tentatively, will see the release of the Nebraska state quarter and the Nebraska Official First Day Coin Cover. Bags and rolls of the quarter will become available at that time.

The Mint?s 10-coin silver proof set is tentatively scheduled for release in May.
The Colorado state quarter is tentatively slated to be out in June, which is also when the U.S. Mint Uncirculated Coin Set is due out.

In July, the Colorado Official First Day Coin Cover is scheduled for release, followed in August by the North Dakota state quarter release and the start of sales of bags and rolls. Both dates are tentative.

The North Dakota Official First Day Coin Cover is scheduled for release in September.

Nothing is scheduled for October or December. In November, the final state quarter of 2006, South Dakota, will be released, along with the official first day coin cover for the quarter.

According to the press release, the Mint is trying, once again, to make products available as early as possible. Keep in mind that tentative dates are subject to change.
