The U.S. Mint elected to jumpstart its Presidential $1 Coin Program by having its official Web page for the program up and running Feb. 1 in advance of the Feb. 15 official launch.
Collectors can get their online Presidential coin fix by visiting www.usmint.gov/mint_programs/$1coin. Among the offerings on the site are:
- Coin release schedule
- Presidential biographies
- Obverse, reverse and edge images
- Educational materials
The biographical area gives a short overview of each President?s life and term, also listing the Mint directors appointed by each president.
Of major interest to amateur and professional researchers are links to downloadable PDFs or Word documents with the wording of every coinage act passed during each President?s term. For those who aren?t inclined to pore over dry historical documents, there is a short synopsis of each act.
Another link takes viewers to an educational materials page where retail businesses, financial institutions and educators can download, or order for free delivery, informational material related to the coin program for customers or students.
Items include flyers, schedules, collector boards, posters, bookmarks and stickers.
Educators can also visit www.usmint.gov/kids for interactive games and complete lesson plans for the Presidential $1 Coins.
In addition, visitors to the site can subscribe to the Presidential $1 Coin newsletter for the latest news on the program, or sign up for RSS desktop newsreader feeds.
Presidential dollars were to go on sale Feb. 15 on the Mint Web site. The four-coin proof set is priced at $14.95. Bags of 250 coins from each mint are priced at $319.95 and rolls of 25 coins are $35.95 each. A $4.95 charge per order is added on all orders.
