Last week we reported sales of 69,500 gold Eagles for the month of November, with just a few days to go until December arrived.
Buyers descended and took another 60,000 1-ounce coins before the month ended. In the opening days of December, buyers took another 7,000 coins. The result is the running annual total leaps by 67,000 coins to 601,000.
Other bullion coin running tallies increased, but not nearly as signficantly.
Copper-nickel clad San Francisco Mint uncirculated quarters are starting to run out. The 100-coin bag supply for the Hawaii and Chaco pieces are sold out.
Tradition prevails as sales of 2012 clad proof and mint sets are moving ahead by 31,716 and 11,629, respectively. Many of these will probably find their way under the nation’s Christmas trees.
Holiday buyers might also account for the 599 set rise in the four-coin gold Eagle proof set number to 5,018.
