Mint Stats: Bullion gold Eagle passes 2012 tally

January sales of bullion 1-ounce gold American Eagles at 93,500 coins have already exceeded January 2012 sales of 84,500. The tenth-ounce coin at 85,000 ties the 2012 monthly total and there are still more than two weeks to go before the end of the month.

Demand for quarter-ounce and half- ounce pieces lag the 2012 pace. The 18,000 and 13,000 sales figures, respectively, are well behind last year’s 38,000 and 49,000 monthly totals.

While bullion silver American Eagle sales have not yet exceeded the January 2012 number, they likely will before the month ends.
