Mint releases details on 2016 Coin and Currency set

The United States Mint released details on the 2016 Native American Dollar Coin and Currency set that goes on sale at noon Eastern Time on Thursday, June 16.

The set has a price of $14.95 and a product limit of 75,000 sets along with a household order limit of five.

The set includes an enhanced uncirculated 2016-S Native American dollar coin and a  Series 2013 dollar note from one of 12 Federal Reserve Bank locations across the United States. The exact bank(s) was not stated or readily apparent on the images released. Both the coin and the note are only available in this set.

The set contains historical information about Native American Code Talkers and their work during World War 1 and 2 in using their native languages in coded communication. A certificate of authenticity is also included on the packaging.

This coin is the eighth release in the Native American dollar coin program which honors the contributions of Native Americans throughout time.

On the dollar coin, the obverse design features the Sacagawea design first used in 2000. The mandated inscriptions “LIBERTY” and “IN GOD WE TRUST” are also on the obverse.

The reverse design features two helmets, one from World War 1 and the other from World War 2, and two feathers that form a “V.” The feathers laid out in that way symbolize “victory, unity, and the important role that these code talkers played.” Inscriptions on the reverse include “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA,” “$1,” “WWI,” “WWII” and “CODE TALKERS.”
