Mint lowers unc. set price

The U.S. Mint in 2012 will no longer ask the same price for both the annual proof and uncirculated coin sets. It is reducing the price of the annual uncirculated set by $4 to $27.95 while leaving the proof set price unchanged at $31.95.

This isn’t the only price break collectors will enjoy in 2012. On Jan. 11, the Mint announced plans to cut the prices of a number of other annual issues.

Nearly one-third will be taken off the price of 100-coin bags of uncirculated America the Beautiful quarters. The new price of $34.95 will be down from $49.95 while a $9 chunk will be taken out of the America the Beautiful Quarters Uncirculated Coin Set, reducing it to $12.95 from $21.95.

The 2012 America the Beautiful Quarters Three-Coin Set will be $9.95 instead of $14.95.

Rolls of 2012 Presidential and Native American dollar coins will be rolled back to $32.95, down from the $39.95 2011 price.

The Presidential $1 Coin & First Spouse Medal Set is to be cut by $5 to $9.95 from $14.95.

The Presidential $1 Coin Uncirculated Set will drop by $3 to $16.95 and the four-coin Presidential $1 Coin Proof Sets will be cheaper by $1 at $18.95.

Reduction from $68.45 to $61.95 is planned for the 2012 silver proof American Eagle, but because its price fluctuates with the price of the precious metal, the cut could be either larger or smaller when the coins actually go on sale.

The 2012 silver proof set price is projected to hold steady at $67.95.
