Memphis Money Show set July 5-8

The 31st International Paper Money Show in Memphis, Tenn., opens its bourse to the public Friday, July 6, at 9 a.m., but related events get started before that.

Auction firm Smythe?s associated 3,000-lot sale commences its first session the evening of July 5, with lot viewing beginning July 3. Sale sessions are scheduled for Thursday, Friday and Saturday evenings, each beginning at 6 p.m.

The Society of Paper Money Collectors plans its traditional Friday morning breakfast, to start at 7:30 a.m. July 6. Advance tickets are required, $20 each, and may be reserved by contacting Wendell Wolka, P.O. Box 1211, Greenwood, IN 46142.

Wolka features at the SPMC?s membership meeting on Saturday, too, which is open to the public, where he?ll give a program about evaluating paper money. The meeting starts at noon.

Meetings are also scheduled for the International Bank Note Society, Paper Money Collectors of Michigan, Military Money Collectors Club, Souvenir Card Collectors Society, American Society of Check Collectors and Fractional Currency Collectors Board. A joint meeting of the Currency Clubs of Long Island, Chester County, New England and Fairfield County Numismatic Association is also on the docket.

Public show hours are 9 a.m.-6 p.m. Thursday and Friday, and 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Sunday. Dealer set-up runs 4 p.m.-9 p.m. Thursday.

Admission is free.

The top-quality exhibit area, once again shepherded by longtime exhibit chairman Mart Delger, is not to be missed.

The show is sponsored by the Memphis Coin Club.

It takes place in the East Hall of the Cook Convention Center, 255 N. Main St., Memphis, with meetings and auction activity in the connected host hotel, the Memphis Marriott Downtown.
