Mehl

Dr. Louis Levy, the grandson of numismatic legend B. Max Mehl, along with 75 other members and guests celebrated Forth Worth Coin Club’s 55th anniversary Oct. 1.

Mehl came to the United States as a boy and grew to be known as “The Little Giant of the Coin World.” He helped organize the Fort Worth Coin Club on Oct. 7, 1954. The Mehl Building, constructed in the early 1920s, still stands today.

Texas Numismatic Association president Mike Grant and Secretary Hal Cherry presented the Fort Worth Coin Club with a Certificate of Membership commemorating the club’s position as TNA Charter Life Member No. 2 and thanked the membership for the club’s support of the TNA and numismatics in general through the years.

The club meets monthly at the Fort Worth Botanic Gardens. It actively promotes the hobby through educational programs, scholarships to the American Numismatic Association Summer Seminar, other educational grants and YN programs. It hosts special events throughout the year as well as two annual coin shows.

FWCC is a host club for the 2010 ANA National Money Show in Fort Worth.
