Medals mark city’s 125th

 

The city of Gering, Neb., is celebrating its 125th anniversary with copper and proof silver medals.

The silver medal is 1 ounce of .999 silver and edge-lettered with “One of 125” and “One troy oz. .999 silver.” It is limited to an issue total of 125 pieces. The copper medal is pure copper, measures 39 mm in size and bears the same design except for a reeded edge.

The medals were minted by the Moonlight Mint in Loveland, Colo.

The obverse’s 125th anniversary logo was designed by Jessie Cozad of Gering, and the reverse design was based on the Oregon Trail commemorative half dollar by Moonlight Mint designer Daniel Carr.

Gering, population of about 8,500, is located in Scotts Bluff County in the Nebraska Panhandle. It is situated on the east side of Scotts Bluff National Monument and 25 miles west of Chimney Rock, which is featured on the 2006 Nebraska state quarter.
