The Windsor, Ontario, Coin Club has announced the release of its 60th anniversary medal.

The Windsor Coin Club commissioned noted medalist and club member John Jaciw to design the medal. He has won design competitions for three Canadian coin reverses and designed the 2003 and 2011 Royal Canadian Numismatic Association convention medals.

The obverse design is a numismatist at work. It is the first time that a numismatist has been depicted on any coin, token or medal that the club is aware of. The reverse bears the club name and logo, and a 60th anniversary message. Below the logo is a magnifying glass to indicate close study of detail and an olive branch to symbolize peace and goodwill.

Bronze and 1-ounce .999 silver versions of the 39mm medal will be produced. The Mississauga Mint Ltd. will produce them.

The medals are available by advance sale only, and orders must be received by May 30. The order form is online at www.windsorcoinclub.com.

Medal delivery is scheduled for early July to allow collectors the opportunity to meet the medalist and to pick up their medals at the 2011 RCNA convention.

The club’s first meeting place was the Willistead Manor. It is a noted Windsor landmark and is the subject of the 2011 RCNA convention medal.
