Medal for Pearl Harbor

The Royal Hawaiian Mint has been authorized by the Pearl Harbor Survivors Association to issue a series of medals that commemorate the 70th anniversary of the attack on Pearl Harbor.

“We’re honored to be a part of remembering ‘the Day of Infamy’ with this series,” said Telle Presley, co-founder of the Royal Hawaiian Mint Company.

For the collector who wants to integrate these modular elements into an existing cabinet or safe.

Ken Creese, Pearl Harbor survivor, added, “I have seen the Royal Hawaiian Mint’s work. And it is absolutely flawless. I encourage you to add the official Pearl Harbor 70th anniversary commemorative to your collection.”

The obverse of the medal portrays a scene of the battle from the deck of the USS Nevada with the stricken USS Arizona in the background.

The scene illustrates the tension as an officer points to the incoming Japanese dive-bomber while two Navy sailors struggle to return fire.

The reverse of the commemorative medal features the Arizona Memorial in the center with the U.S. flag surrounded by an outline of the island of Oahu with Pearl Harbor. The Imperial Japanese flag is shown upside-down, symbolizing the eventual defeat of Japan after the U.S. declared war. The legend includes the battle call, REMEMBER PEARL HARBOR.

There are three versions of the medal available in bronze and silver. The medals are also available as sets. Prices range from $24 to $99 for a silver and bronze set.
