The Citizens Coinage Advisory Committee endorsed designs featuring the club’s founder for the obverse and a pair of lions for the reverse when it met recently.

The club’s preference for a portrait of founder Melvin Jones was selected for the obverse, according to CCAC Chairman Mary Lannin.

But while the Lions Club preferred a reverse design that depicted a male and female lion along with a lion cub, Lannin said the committee felt the addition of the cub made the design two busy. It instead endorsed a design featuring a male and female lion.

A surcharge of $10 from the sale of each club will support ongoing Lions programs that assist the visually impaired, disabled, youth and those affected by major disasters.
