Lincoln on medal

The Chicago Coin Club issued a medal to honor the return of the American Numismatic Association World’s Fair of Money to Chicago Aug. 16-20.

Made of copper with antique finish, the medal features “Standing Lincoln,” a statue by Augustus Saint-Gaudens that is located in Chicago’s Lincoln Park at North Dearborn Parkway. “Chicago Coin Club” reads vertically. The reverse side bears the words “American Numismatic Association Convention” and “Chicago 2011.” The medal measures 2 by 1.375 by .125 inches.

It was on sale for $20 at the Chicago Coin Club’s bourse table, and the group is also excepting mail orders for an additional $3 handling and insurance fee. Just 250 of the medals were minted at Indiana Medal Craft of Bloomington, Ind.

During the convention, Numismatic Theatre co-chairs Michael Gasvoda and Philip Carrigan presented each Theatre speaker an individually engraved medal attached to a maroon neck ribbon.

Made of bronze with an antique finish, the medal bears the same obverse design as the show medal. On the reverse is “Numismatic Theatre Speaker” and “American Numismatic Association Convention Chicago 2011” with the presenter’s name engraved in between.

Of the 50 medals produced, 36 went to speakers and 14 were to be presented to the chairs of the Chicago Coin Club ANA Planning Committee.
