A PCGS AU-53 pewter 1776 Continental dollar with CURRENCY spelling on obverse. Newman 2-C (R.3), will be put on the block at Kagin’s March 9-10 auction.

Rare gold will highlight Kagin’s Auctions official American Numismatic Association National Money Show sale March 9-10 in Orlando, Fla.

In the spotlight will be the Allan Collection, which is the no. 1 Registry Set of Bechtler private gold coinage. It includes 35 of 37 known varieties and unique patterns and documents, said Don Kagin.

Pioneer gold, with selections from the Frank Ford Collection, follows the Allan Collection. These in turn are superseded by 88 pieces of California fractional gold section, including the popular “Arms of California” and Period 1 round dollars.

A small offering of original, high-grade proof gold certified in early-generation holders is likely to elicit fierce completion, Kagin said.

They include an 1856 and 1875 $2.50 in Professional Coin Grading Service PR65 and PR-65 Cameo, respectively. Also featured will be a PCGS PR-65 1865 $5 and a PCGS PR-65 1860 $10.

The Finest Collection of Flying Eagle patterns cents is another featured collection in the sale.

There are 25 different pattern specimens, including an 1858 cent bearing the eagle image on both sides and other unique patterns.

Highlighting Colonial coins is a 1776 Continental Dollar and rare, pedigreed Rosa Americana and Maryland coinage. These are followed by Hawaiian coins, tokens, pattern fragments and a choice Lahaina Luna currency set.

An AU-50 1792 half disme will be a highlight of Federal coinage in Kagin’s ANA auction.

Federal coinage starts with a 1792 half disme graded PCGS AU-50; two 1799 large cents, a gem 1818/5 Capped Bust quarter; and one of two 1876-CC PCGS Specimen 66 Branch Mint Dimes.

Florida National Bank Notes from the Sen. Warren Henderson Collection will highlight a large paper money section.

There will be more than 100 high-grade type notes.

For the beginning and moderate collector who wants to purchase scarce and important coins without breaking the bank, Kagin’s has almost 300 lots from the Dr. William Christie collection of affordable Bust halves, early dollars and U.S. type coins.

Bidders in the auction will find that the firm has implemented Kagin’s Auctions Loyalty Program ™.

The firm says, “All successful purchasers shall be entitled to a credit against any future purchases in a KA auction, in the amount of one percent (1%) of the total purchase prices paid by them (hammer plus buyer’s commission – taxes or other charges not included), such credit to extend to the next two (2) KA auctions, or a period of 1 year, whichever is longer.

Kagin says this is the first loyalty program for an auction firm.

He said, “This is the first time that we are aware of that such a long-term loyalty program has ever been implemented in numismatic auctions.

“Actually except for a short-term promotion we cannot find where such a program has been available from any other auction house,” he said.

“Loyalty programs have worked well in the airline, car and hospitality industries over the last few decades. Obviously we hope to bring more participation in our diversified numismatic auctions, but in addition Kagin’s Auctions encourages more interest and involvement in our hobby by offering free memberships and reference books to every successful buyer,” Kagin said.

Kagin’s Auctions is planning another sale Sept. 15 at the Santa Clara show in California.

Other things that will make the online ANA auction catalog noteworthy will be links to other numismatic websites.

Sales participants will also be eligible for free references, memberships and grading coupons, Kagin said.
