Jeppson gets nod to be Mint Director

After six months service as the principal deputy director of the U.S. Mint, Rhett Jeppson will be nominated by President Barack Obama to serve as Mint director, according to a White House announcement July 9.

The post has been vacant since early 2011 when Ed Moy stepped down.

Before he joined the Mint, Jeppson was acting chief operating officer of the Small Business Administration. He also served as associate administrator for veterans business development at the SBA.

According to his Mint biography, Jeppson joined the U.S. Marine Corps and was commissioned after graduating from the University of Florida.

He served in Iraq  in Operation Desert Storm) and in Afghanistan for Operation Enduring Freedom.

He is a lieutenant colonel in the Marine Corps Reserve.

Jeppson must be confirmed by the U.S. Senate to take up the position.
