A patent was granted to a Michigan firm Nov. 1 for a coin holder that also displays the coin’s edge in a manner that the viewer can see when the coin lies flat in a slab or in other packaging of some kind.
Joseph Jarski, president and chief executive officer of Muroc Masters Research and Development of Richmond, Mich., has created what he calls his edge viewing optics.
“The design has a double reflective surface allowing you to view a true projection of the edge,” he said.
Currently the firm has holders for Presidential and Native American dollars, First Spouse coins, Anthony dollars, most Capped Bust half dollars and Flowing Hair dollars as well as for some bullion coins.
Robert Haire, MMRD vice president said Nov. 14 that the new holder is good for long-term storage.
His firm is looking to license or sell the patent for use by mainstream numismatic companies.
