Pennsylvania hobbyist William H. Cowburn Jr. died of cancer Feb. 24 at home in York. He was 58.
Mr. Cowburn is remembered for being a club volunteer, writer, speaker and exhibitor.
He was president of the Red Rose Coin Club as well as membership chairman. He was vice president of the York Coin Club.
His knowledge of Bust and Seated Liberty coinage and Trade dollars was shared in articles, talks and exhibits.
He received the American Numismatic Association’s Heath Literary Award for an article, “How Rare is Rare?”
At the 2006 summer ANA convention in Denver he was first runner-up in the Best of Show competition with “A Transitional 1876 Proof Trade Dollar.”
