Ganz receives ICTA award

Founding board member David L. Ganz was given the James U. Blanchard Lifetime Achievement Award of the Industry Council for Tangible Assets at the organization’s Jan. 7 dinner meeting in Orlando, Fla.

It is only the third time ICTA, which was founded in 1983 as the voice of the numismatic community in Washington, D.C., and state capitals, has given the award.

The first recipient was Blanchard himself, who was honored posthumously for his efforts to get gold bullion ownership legalized in 1974. The second recipient was current American Numismatic Association President Barry Stuppler.

Ganz was recognized for more than a quarter century “of pro bono service” to ICTA and the coin industry, providing legal counsel at no cost during ICTA’s darkest financial hours.

He also served as special outside counsel to several of ICTA’s leaders on issues that affected the entire coin and bullion community, including the Federal Trade Commission hearings on telemarketing in Chicago in 1990.

Ganz is a former ANA president. He also writes books and is a Numismatic News columnist.
