Ganz authors coin book

ganznewbook.jpgThe Smithsonian Institution presents  the ?Guide to Coin Collecting? (Collins, $19.95, trade paperback) written by David L. Ganz, the ?father of the state quarter program,? and a Numismatic News contributor.

With full-color illustrations, historical context, step-by-step explanations and expert advice, this book guides you through the process of starting a collection.

The book begins with the history of coin collecting, and continues with an explanation of how coins are made, the elements of coin design and famous coin collectors. Updated for the digital age, this guide also features tips on how to make the most of current Internet resources and auction sites.

Ganz, a nationally-known numismatics expert, is a life fellow of the American Numismatic Society and was 48th president (1993-95) of the American Numismatic Association. He was a Nixon administration appointee to the 1974 Annual Assay Commission, and served as a Clinton Administration representative of the Citizens Commemorative Coin Advisory Committee. Ganz is the author of many books on numismatics, including ?Profitable Coin Collecting? to be released this fall by Krause Publications.   He practices law in New York.
