Any electoral fireworks in this year’s American Numismatic Association elections will likely be limited to the contested race for vice president where former ANA governor Arthur Fitts is going head to head with current governor Walter Ostromecki.

Fitts is from Wolfeboro, N.H., and Ostromecki is from Panorama City, Calif.

The presidency will be filled by current vice president Tom Hallenbeck of Colorado Springs, Colo. He is running unopposed. He is the son of former ANA president Ken Hallenbeck, who served 1989-1991.

Vying for seven seats on the board of governors are eight candidates. Five of the eight are currently serving on the board.

Current president Clifford Mishler is seeking to return for two more years, this time as a governor.

Seeking re-election as governors are Jeff C. Garrett of Lexington, Ky.; J.P. Martin of Englewood, Colo.; Scott Rottinghaus of New London, Conn., and Wendell A. Wolka of Greenwood, Ind.

A former president of the Professional Numismatists Guild, Gary Adkins of Minneapolis, Minn., is running for a seat on the board as are Greg Lyon of St. Louis, Mo., and Michael Ellis of Camilla, Ga.
The election will be held by mail. Ballots are scheduled for mailing to ANA members June 15. Deadline for marking and returning them is July 15.

Results will be announced July 27 and the new board will be sworn in Aug. 20 at the World’s Fair of Money in Chicago.

Terms of office are two years.

The ANA says that a video of a candidate forum held March 19 in Sacramento, Calif., will be posted at www.money.org in April. Nine of the candidates were present for the event.

As Numismatic News was going to press, the candidates who filed as of the March 31 deadline had one more day to withdraw by the April 7 deadline.

Ballots will be sent to ANA members by auditing firm BiggsKofford, P.C.
