Buyers take a smorgasbord approach

There are no home runs this week. Buyers are active, but spreading their dollars around various Mint products.

Proof baseball half dollars advanced by 8,852 this week to 119,869. The uncirculated version moved ahead by 4,758 coins to 74,203.

Proof silver American Eagle sales rose by 25,926 to reach 484,075. The uncirculated version crawled ahead by 5,009 to 111,358. So the proof is outselling the uncirculated by nearly 4.35-to-1.

Buyers of proof 2014 gold American Eagles are showing a strong preference for the one-ounce coin. Sales jumped by 1,097. The next most popular option this week was the tenth-ounce proof at 384, while the full four-coin set sales rose by 315, the quarter ounce by 155 and the half ounce by 111. Clad 2014 proof set sales have throttled back to 7,966 this week. The running total is 257,391.

The Great Smoky Mountains 5-ounce “P” uncirculated coin inched ahead by 1,426. Another 2,159 need to be sold to reach a sellout.
