Eshbach to receive Farran Zerbe Award

The highest American Numismatic Association award, the Farran Zerbe Memorial Award, will be given to John Eshbach at the organization’s annual banquet Aug. 8 at the World’s Fair of Money in Los Angeles.

The Lancaster, Pa., hobbyist has made a name in numismatics as a trophy-winning exhibitor and exhibit judge since 1960.

Now 88 years old, Eshbach can usually be found working in the exhibit section of any ANA convention.

He is just three years short of marking his 50th anniversary as an ANA member. His interest in the hobby originated through his daughter and her school coin club.

He has taught exhibit preparation at ANA Summer Seminars, been an active ANA club representative and has accessioned material in the ANA collection.

His home club is the Red Rose Coin Club.

He was given the ANA’s Outstanding Club Representative Award in 1987, the Numismatic News  Numismatic Ambassador Award in 1992, the ANA Glenn Smedley Memorial Award in 2000 and the ANA Medal of Merit in 2001.

He and Jerry Kochel received the Joseph E. Boling Award for Excellence in Judging  in 2007.
