Rolls of uncirculated “S” mint El Yunque National Forest quarters cost $18.95 each when the Mint put them on sale June 21, almost twice the $10 face value.
Bags of 100 coins will be priced at $34.95 each.
The uncirculated quality copper-nickel clad coins will not be available through the banking system. Collectors will have to buy them directly from the Mint at its website at www.usmint.gov, or by telephone at (800) USA-MINT.
The Mint assesses a $4.95 shipping and handling fee on each order.
The “S” mint coins have an initial mintage target of 1.2 million pieces, but the Mint will increase that amount if demand warrants.
This is the first “S” mint copper-nickel clad quarter to be struck that is not a proof.
