2006-Gold Eagle-proof-obv.jpgIt?s officially a sellout.

The 2006 proof gold American Eagle one-ounce coins have gone off sale, having reached their authorized mintage of 12,000 individual coins. They are still being sold as part of a four-coin gold American Eagle set.

On May 1, sales of 2006 proof gold American Eagles were halted as the U.S. Mint adjusted its prices to be more in line with the rising world market value of gold.

Sales resumed on May 18 and a week later, on May 25, the U.S. Mint reported a sellout of the coins. When sales were stopped, the number of coins that had been reported sold to that point was 11,871.
