D.C. considers other quarter ideas

dc.jpg?Taxation Without Representation? was ruled unacceptable by the Mint for District of Columbia quarters in 2009. Now there?s word of what the Mint is thinking about instead.

What?s contemplated are three portraits of famous Americans who have little to do with Washington other than having passed through at various times of their lives: Benjamin Banneker, the surveyor of the District; Duke Ellington, the great musician; and Frederick Douglass, famous emancipationist.

The names were revealed in the Washington Post in a copyrighted, unsigned column entitled, ?District Could Use Change for Its Quarter.?
