Court considers Cipoletti

Chris Cipoletti, American Numismatic Association’s embattled former executive director, faced a new challenge Sept. 28, as a unit of the Colorado Supreme Court in Denver considers whether or not his law license should be suspended.

Fired by the ANA board in 2007, the dispute over his discharge and a claim for damages resulted in an arbitrator’s finding that he “overreached” – lawyer’s words for behaved unethically – and breached his fiduciary duty to the non-profit collector’s organization.

A copyrighted story in the Colorado Springs Gazette claims Cipoletti voluntarily stopped practicing law in August and repaid fees and funds that the arbitrator’s opinion found were wrongfully retained by Cipoletti rather than passed on to the ANA.
