Coin of the Year winners announced

Individual category winners and the top Coin Of The Year prize were announced on Feb. 3, 2018, at the World Money Fair in Berlin, Germany.

All coins in the contest are dated 2016.

From these 10 winning coins, an international panel of judges selected the Coin of the Year:  the German 5 Euro Copper-Nickel Planet Earth with Polymer Ring, shown immediately above, that also took Most Innovative Coin honors.

The COTY Awards are sponsored by World Coin News, the World Money Fair and the Journal of East Asian Numismatics.

Created in 1984, they have been given by World Coin News to recognize the best of the coiner’s art and to encourage world mints to continue to challenge themselves in creating these great numismatic works.

World Coin News is a monthly periodical dedicated to collecting international coinage and is a sister publication to the weekly Numismatic News, which is dedicated to U.S. numismatics.
