CCAC seeks new member

Applicants are sought to fill an open position on the Citizens Coinage Advisory Committee.

The position is one of three that represents the general public on the committee.

Deadline for applications is June 12. The U.S. Mint will review all applications and will forward recommendations to the secretary of the Treasury for consideration. The secretary makes the official appointment.

The CCAC advises the secretary on the selection of themes and design proposals for circulating coinage, bullion coinage, congressional gold medals and other medals. The CCAC also advises the secretary with regard to the events, persons, or places to be commemorated by the issuance of commemorative coins as well as the mintage levels and proposed designs of commemorative coins.

There are 11 members of the CCAC: one specially qualified in numismatic collection curation; one specially qualified in the medallic arts or sculpture; one specially qualified in American history; one specially qualified in numismatics; three representing the interests of the general public; and four recommended by the leadership of both the House of Representatives and Senate.

Applications postmarked later than June 12 will not be considered.
