Brockton celebrates National Coin Week

A crowd of 80 people packed the Brockton, Mass., Public Library for a National Coin Week event April 15.

The theme was “ Conflict and courage: Money and the Military.” It was inspired by the 100th anniversary of America’s entry into World War I.

Brockton, Mass, hosted 80 at a National Coin Week event April 15 at the local library.

Open to ages 7 and up, there were free workshops, door prizes and a raffle.

Richard Hand broke the YNs off to a conference room while the adults enjoyed a talk on World War I.

The YNs were given three S-mint Buffalo nickels donated by American Numismatic Association President Jeff Garrett.

The challenge was to grade and label them in 2x2s.

When the YN portion of the program was finished, they made their way back into the big room to hear the end of of the talk by James Johnston Jr.

Hand asked for YNs to stay back so they could play stack the cent game to win another coin.
