Housekeeping matters dominated actions and deliberations of the American Numismatic Association’s board of governors when it met Jan. 8 at the New York International Numismatic Convention.

Executive Director Larry Shepherd’s contract was extended by approximately seven months to conclude Dec. 31, 2013.

President Clifford Mishler said it was done because the fiscal year end had been previously moved from March 31 to Oct. 31. The net effect puts Shepherd’s performance review at a time when the full year’s financials become available to the board.

A two-year contract with legal counsel Ron Sirna was also approved for 2011-2012.

New Hampshire hobbyist Bob Fritsch has been appointed chairman of the membership committee.

With an annual schedule that now includes a spring and a fall National Money Show and a World’s Fair of Money in the summertime, the board is changing the timing of some annual awards so that they can be given at the National Money Shows rather than at the summer convention.

Implementation will be in 2012.

Awards to be moved from the summer convention will be the Adna Wilde Memorial Award for Excellence, the Exemplary Service Award, Lifetime Achievement Award and Numismatist of the Year.

The board is also reviewing National Money Show exhibit awards.

Mishler is looking into how the ANA can recognize the 50th anniversary of the Society of Paper Money Collectors and the International Bank Note Society at the 35th Memphis International Paper Money Show in June.

The process of reviewing ANA bylaws continues. It is hoped the full text will be published in the July issue of The Numismatist and the board can then vote on them at its board meetings the week of Aug. 16-20 at the World’s Fair of Money in Chicago.
