ANA urges Wisconsin collectors to get involved
Urgent Information Regarding Wisconsin Sales Tax Exemption on Numismatic Items
Dear Wisconsin ANA Member,
You are receiving this e-mail because as a collector and resident of Wisconsin, you may find the following information of urgent importance.
The ANA recognizes the need to keep its members informed on issues such as this on a timely basis. In your pending state budget bill there is a provision that, if enacted, would provide Wisconsin residents with an exemption from sales taxes on coins, precious metals, and collectible currency. However, unless you call your legislators now to let them know that this provision is important to you, it may be removed from the final bill.
Fellow Wisconsin residents Joe Kaminski and Cliff Mishler have been working with the Industry Council for Tangible Assets (ICTA) to ensure that this provision becomes law. The lobbyist Joe and Cliff have hired made it clear that the success or failure of the current bill will be heavily influenced by your calls to representatives and senators.
If having a sales tax exemption on coins, precious metals and currency is important to you, please contact your state legislators to let them know.
While all legislators are important, there are some who are especially critical in the current process. These include:
Speaker Mike Huebsch (Onalaska), 608-266-2401
Senator Scott Fitzgerald (Dodge, Jefferson County & Oconomowoc), 608-266-5660
Representative Jeff Fitzgerald (Dodge County), 608-266-2540
Representative Kitty Rhoades (Hudson/River Falls), 608-266-1526
Senate Majority Leader Judy Robson (Janesville/Beloit/Whitewater), 608-266-2253
Senator Russ Decker (Wausau, Taylor/Price/Rusk Counties), 608-266-2502
Senator Bob Jauch (Bayfield/Ashland/Iron/Sawyer/Barron/Washburn/Burnett), 608-266-3510
Assembly Minority Leader Jim Kreuser (Kenosha), 608-266-5504
Senator Bob Wirch (Kenosha County/Burlington), 608-267-8979
Senator Dave Hansen (Green Bay/Oconto/Marinette), 608-266-5670
Senator Roger Breske (Vilas/Oneida/Lincoln/Langlade/Forest/Florence, Crivitz & Wittenberg), 608-266-2509
When you speak with the legislator’s staff person, say that you support the Sales Tax Exemption for Coins and Precious Metals Bullion that is included in the state budget currently under consideration, and ask for the legislator’s favorable consideration of this provision. You might add that this will benefit Wisconsin consumers and businesses, and will provide a long-overdue level playing field with the other 29 states that already have sales tax exemptions for these investment products. You may also wish to remind them that Wisconsin’s neighboring states of Michigan and Illinois have had such an exemption for many years.
We know that ANA collector members may or may not regard their collections as investments. However, you may find it of interest that the ICTA reports that it is the investment aspect of coins, currency and precious metals that has enabled exemptions to pass in the other states.
We hope this information is helpful. Please let us know if you contact your legislator, and we will forward your information to Joe Kaminski and Cliff Mishler.
