The 2016 Centennial gold Mercury dime releases April 21 with a 125,000 coin mintage and a 10 coin order limit.

The coin will feature a “W” mintmark on the reverse where 100 years ago a “D” first appeared.

The 1916-D with a mintage of just 264,000 turned out to be the key to the Mercury dime series 1916-1945.

Whether this West Point gold version piece will turn into a sought-after rarity will soon become known.

It is the first of three 2016 Centennial gold coins marking the introduction of the Mercury dime, Standing Liberty quarter and Walking Liberty half dollar a century ago.

The gold Mercury contains one-tenth ounce of 24-karat gold as indicated on the reverse under “E Pluribus Unum.”

The Mint said that each coin is encapsulated and placed in a custom black-matte hardwood presentation case accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity.
