A larger group of exhibitors, standout auction and compelling speeches highlight the 17th annual Chicago Paper Money Expo set for March 10-13 at the Crowne Plaza Chicago O’Hare.

The number of exhibitors reserving tables on the CPMX bourse floor has already exceeded the number from the 2010 show, and organizers expected to add several more tableholders in the weeks before the show.

“We are absolutely thrilled with the dealer lineup we have for CPMX,” said CPMX chairman Scott Tappa. “Over the past year we have worked extremely hard to promote the show and recruit new exhibitors domestically and internationally, and the efforts have paid off. Among the many new tableholders we have are companies from France, India and Canada, as well as many from the U.S. Past dealers and attendees are sure to find lots of new and exciting material under the glass.”

On the auction front, CPMX is pleased to welcome back Lyn Knight Currency Auctions. Knight will once again put forth an outstanding three-session sale (see related story). Sessions will be held at 6 p.m. Thursday, Friday and Saturday, March 10-12 in O’Hare Ballroom 5, just off the bourse floor. Auction lot viewing will begin the morning of Wednesday, March 9. For more information, visit www.lynknight.com.

As usual, CPMX will feature a lineup of interesting talks given by hobby leaders. O’Hare Ballroom 1 will host these sessions on Saturday, March 12.

At 11 a.m., Lawrence Schuffman and Dr. Theodore Robinson will speak on behalf of the Society of Paper Money Collections with a talk entitled “The U.S. Treasury Checks of the Geneva Award, Our Numismatic Legacy from the Civil War.” At 1 p.m., the Chicago Coin Club hosts Joseph Boling speaking on “Counterfeiting Paper Money Government to Government During Wartime.” At 2 p.m, Dr. Leon Saryan presents “Armenian Heritage on Modern Paper Money” for the International Bank Note Society.

CPMX opens for dealer setup at 10 a.m. Thursday, March 10, and to the public for professional preview viewing at 2 p.m. (admission $50). General public attendance runs from 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Friday and  Saturday, March 11-12, and 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Sunday, March 13.

Krause Publications’ paper money editors and experts will be in attendance at CPMX, including Bank Note Reporter editor Bob Van Ryzin, Standard Catalog of World Paper Money editor George Cuhaj and U.S. paper money market analyst Bill Brandimore. Door prizes will also be given out periodically throughout the show.

A block of rooms at the Crowne Plaza has been reserved for CPMX attendees – to reserve a room call 888-233-9527 and mention rate code “Chicago Paper Money 2011” to receive the show rate. The Crowne Plaza has completed a wholesale renovation and now features updated rooms and new eating establishments. The hotel is located a short taxi ride from O’Hare International Airport.

The Crowne Plaza will also be the site of another leading specialty numismatic event in April: the Chicago International Coin Fair, scheduled for April 14-17. Featuring a Heritage auction and expanded bourse floor, CICF promises to be one of spring’s most exciting events, Tappa said.
