HIBERNIA - IRELAND
Posted by colin

HiberniaMedalfc.jpgAmongst my accumulation of world orders and military medals I noticed an old acquisition the other day which probably came from Ireland.

The star has seven points and measures 60 mm across the points with what appears to be a brass plating. The center is dark copper colored and measures 36 mm having a harp in sprays. Total weight is 44 grams. The reverse is smooth with the maker's mark at center - TOYE & Co. (symbol) / LONDONĀ  which is still in business today . It has a ring suspension for a neck chain or ribbon. I would guess it was manufactured in the late 18th or 19th century but have been unable to find out what organization had it struck or for what purpose.
